Clearwater River (Idaho)

The Clearwater River in north-central Idaho forms at the confluence of the Middle Fork and South Fork near Kooskia and flows roughly 75 miles westward through forested canyons and the Bitterroot Mountains before joining the Snake River at Lewiston. Fed by pure high-elevation streams from the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, its clear waters shape a varied landscape of steep slopes, dense forests, and sandy beaches. Recreationally it offers relaxed float trips and kayaking on calmer stretches, more challenging whitewater on its forks, outstanding steelhead and salmon fishing, plus ample opportunities for hiking, camping, and swimming along its scenic banks.
