Rivermap EN Truckee River
The Truckee River is a vital waterway in the western United States, flowing approximately 121 miles (195 km) from its source at Lake Tahoe in California northeastward into Nevada. As the only natural outlet of Lake Tahoe, it drains the high Sierra Nevada and carries snowmelt from alpine forests through rugged canyons and mountain landscapes. Passing the town of Truckee and the cities of Reno and Sparks, the river transitions from a clear mountain stream into a resource that supports urban areas, agriculture, and irrigation in the high desert. It ultimately terminates in Pyramid Lake, a large endorheic lake in the Great Basin, without reaching the ocean. The Truckee River plays a crucial role in the region's ecology, water supply, and history, sustaining diverse ecosystems and human communities along its course.
