Narva

The Narva River rises from Lake Peipus and winds 77 kilometres northward as a natural border between Estonia and Russia before emptying into the Gulf of Finland at Narva-Jõesuu. Its broad channel, lined by forests, marshes and open plains, widens in places to several hundred metres and crosses the flat northeastern landscape before reaching the historic twin towns of Narva and Ivangorod, where powerful waterfalls once cascaded over the Baltic Klint. Today the riverside promenades invite long walks and cycling routes with striking views of the facing fortresses, while boat trips glide down the calm waters to the sandy beaches and pine forests of Narva-Jõesuu. Anglers discover rewarding spots, and designated banks together with nearby recreation areas offer swimming, hiking and quiet enjoyment of nature.
