Spokane River

The Spokane River flows roughly 111 miles from Lake Coeur d’Alene in northern Idaho westward across the Rathdrum Prairie and through the Spokane Valley into the heart of Spokane, Washington, where it plunges over the dramatic Spokane Falls before continuing through rocky gorges and calmer reaches to join the Columbia River. Its geography shifts from open prairie and urban corridors to basalt cliffs, pine-lined banks, and lively rapids such as those at Bowl and Pitcher. Recreation thrives along its course: paddlers kayak or raft both gentle stretches and whitewater sections, anglers seek trout and bass, hikers and cyclists follow the long Centennial Trail, while swimmers, tubers, and visitors enjoy riverside parks and beaches.
