Beschreibung des Flusses Farigaig
The River Farigaig is a scenic, steep river in the Scottish Highlands that flows about 13 km southwestwards from the hills east of Loch Ness into the famous loch at the hamlet of Inverfarigaig. Surrounded by the beautiful Farigaig Forest with its towering conifers, rocky trails, and panoramic views over Loch Ness, it offers excellent opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. The area is particularly popular for walking and hiking along waymarked trails, such as the short steep path to the hidden “Magic Loch” (Lochan Tòrr an Tuill) or the longer Farigaig Circular and connections to the South Loch Ness Trail, ideal for enjoying wildlife, ancient forts like Dun Dearduil, and stunning loch vistas. For experienced paddlers, the river provides a challenging whitewater experience with grade 4/5 sections, boulder rapids, gorges, and waterfalls in a remote, atmospheric setting. Additionally, the river and surrounding waters are suitable for trout fishing, while the proximity to Loch Ness opens up further activities like kayaking on the loch itself or relaxed picnics in the forest.
