Beschreibung des Flusses Rock River (Mississippi River)
The Rock River, a major tributary of the Mississippi, stretches approximately 300 miles through Wisconsin and Illinois and serves as a highly popular destination for a wide range of recreational activities on and around the water. It is especially well-known as the Rock River National Water Trail, which runs from the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in central Wisconsin all the way to its confluence with the Mississippi at the Quad Cities. With its generally gentle gradient, the river is ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding; more than 150 access points – many of them ADA-accessible – allow both beginners and experienced paddlers to explore beautiful sections through rural landscapes, wilderness areas, and vibrant communities such as Janesville, Beloit, Rockford, Sterling, and Rock Island. In suitable stretches, motorized boating, water skiing, and even sailing are popular, while anglers prize the river for its diverse fish populations (including bass, catfish, walleye, and more). Along the banks, numerous parks, hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, and observation spots invite visitors to relax, watch wildlife, swim, hunt, or simply enjoy the varied river scenery. The Rock River thus perfectly combines active water sports with laid-back outdoor recreation in an accessible and scenically diverse setting.
