South Fork Flathead River

The South Fork Flathead River rises deep in Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness and flows roughly 100 miles northwest through pristine mountain forests, broad valleys and narrow canyons between the Flathead and Swan Ranges before reaching Hungry Horse Reservoir. One of the region’s wildest rivers, it rewards visitors with multi-day packraft or raft trips on mostly gentle to moderate water, outstanding fly fishing for native westslope cutthroat and bull trout, and extensive hiking and horseback trails through true wilderness solitude.
