Sanpoil River

The Sanpoil River meanders as a roughly 59-mile tributary of the Columbia River through the Okanogan Highlands and Kettle River Range in northeastern Washington. Rising in forested elevations above 7,000 feet, it flows southward through dense conifer woods, grassy valleys and alluvial plains in Ferry and Okanogan counties, crossing the Colville Indian Reservation before emptying into the Sanpoil Arm of Lake Roosevelt. The landscape features glacially sculpted hills, lush riparian zones and a transition from highland forests to open valleys. Anglers prize the clear, cool waters for rainbow and cutthroat trout as well as kokanee, while quiet stretches invite camping and peaceful nature observation.
