Rapid River

The Rapid River rises in the high Seven Devils Mountains within the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and plunges roughly twenty miles through a steep, narrow, largely roadless canyon before joining the Little Salmon River near Riggins, Idaho. Its clear, cold water and pronounced gradient create a dramatic landscape of rock walls, cascades, and rich riparian vegetation. Hikers and backpackers follow the trail along the river, immersing themselves in the secluded canyon with spring wildflowers and distant views, while anglers pursue Chinook salmon, steelhead, and trout.
