Rivermap EN Owyhee River
The Owyhee River winds for hundreds of miles through the remote high desert of northeastern Nevada, southwestern Idaho and southeastern Oregon before joining the Snake River system. Carved deep into arid plateaus, it flows through dramatic canyons of rhyolite and basalt whose steep walls rise hundreds of feet above the river, creating a landscape of solitude known as the Grand Canyon of the Owyhee. In spring snowmelt transforms stretches of the river into lively whitewater ideal for rafting and kayaking, while calmer seasons invite fishing for trout and bass, hiking along side canyons, riverside camping and quiet wildlife observation amid sagebrush country.
