Rivermap EN Imnaha River
The Imnaha River rises in the high glaciated valleys of the Eagle Cap Wilderness in the Wallowa Mountains of northeastern Oregon and winds roughly 75 miles through deeply carved canyons along a geologic fault line until it joins the Snake River in Hells Canyon. Descending more than 4,400 feet, it traverses a striking range of landscapes—from alpine meadows and dense conifer forests through stands of ponderosa pine to arid, steep gorges of grassland and rock walls. Designated entirely as a Wild and Scenic River, it invites recreationists to remote hiking and horseback trails beside the water, fishing for steelhead, bull trout and salmon, camping beneath pines at peaceful sites, and kayaking or rafting the lower reaches with their clear rapids.
