The Yahara River in Wisconsin is a versatile and very popular destination for a wide range of recreational activities, flowing through varied landscapes of river wetlands, lakes, and both urban and rural sections. It is especially well-known for excellent canoeing and kayaking opportunities: from calm, family-friendly paddling stretches to particularly scenic sections such as the Upper Yahara River near DeForest, featuring gentle rapids, clear water, boulder gardens, and abundant wildlife. Numerous public access points and launches make getting on the water easy and convenient.Fishing is a classic pastime along the Yahara River, with good populations of bass, northern pike, walleye, bluegill, carp, white bass, and other warm-water species attracting anglers year after year. The many shoreline trails – including the Upper Yahara River Trail and the Lower Yahara River Trail – invite long walks, hikes, and bike rides, often offering beautiful views of the water and surrounding nature.Numerous riverside areas are perfect for picnics, relaxed strolls with dogs, or simply watching birds and other wildlife.
