The South Fabius River is an approximately 81–82 mile (130–132 km) long river in northeastern Missouri, USA. It originates in Schuyler County (with its North and South Forks in adjacent counties), flows generally south-southeastward through Knox, Lewis, Shelby, and Marion counties, and joins the North Fabius River in Marion County to form the short Fabius River, which soon empties into the Mississippi River. Unlike the heavily channelized North Fabius River, the South Fabius is only about 10% straightened/channelized, preserving much of its natural meandering course. This results in some of the best fish habitat in northern Missouri, supporting diverse sportfish such as smallmouth bass, flathead catfish, channel catfish, walleye, and others, often amid striking limestone bluffs and scenic surroundings—making it a prime destination for anglers and float trips.
