The lower Fabius River starts at the confluence of the North and South Fabius Rivers in Marion County, Missouri, and flows only about 6 miles (10 km) slowly and with low gradient to its mouth in the Mississippi River at Fabius Chute (near Quincy, IL).Recreation centers on Fabius Chute Access (Missouri Department of Conservation) with a boat ramp for kayak, canoe, and motorboat. Main activities:Fishing (shore or boat): channel catfish, flathead catfish, freshwater drum, carp – especially around the rock dikes and deep holes.
Kayaking/canoeing: relaxed short trips into the Fabius Chute or onto the Mississippi.
Nature observation, primitive camping, and hunting in nearby conservation areas.
