The Prairie River is an approximately 40-mile (65 km) long tributary of the Wisconsin River in north-central Wisconsin, USA. It originates from boggy lakes and wetlands in Langlade County, flows southwest through forests, meadows, and farmland, and joins the Wisconsin River near Merrill. The river is renowned for its clear, cool, slightly acidic, and often lightly brown-tinted water („root beer-colored“), and is considered one of the best and most productive trout streams in the area, supporting both brook and brown trout.
