The North Fork Jump River is the northern branch of the Jump River in north-central Wisconsin, primarily located in Price County. It flows through a relatively wild, secluded, and heavily forested landscape on the edge of the Chequamegon National Forest and stretches approximately 18–25 miles until it joins the South Fork to form the main Jump River.Recreational activities are the main attraction here. The river is particularly popular among anglers, who primarily target smallmouth bass, northern pike, and muskellunge (musky) – often by wading in the stream. In spring, with higher water levels, the North Fork Jump River offers good opportunities for canoeing and kayaking, while in typical summer low-water conditions it usually becomes too shallow for continuous paddling trips. Unlike the main Jump River (known for its exciting Class II–III rapids like Little and Big Falls), the North Fork is significantly calmer, features no notable rapids or boulder gardens, and therefore provides more relaxed, nature-immersed paddling experiences for those who enjoy a quieter adventure. The surrounding wilderness also invites hiking, hunting, and – in winter – snowmobiling. Overall, the North Fork Jump River represents a peaceful, authentic slice of the North Woods – perfect for anyone seeking fishing, paddling, or simply enjoying the unspoiled wilderness of northern Wisconsin away from mass tourism.
