The source of the Right Hand Branch Tobique River is in the Long Lake and Trousers Lake region of northwestern New Brunswick, Canada. These two lakes, approximately five and seven miles long, respectively, are the main sources of the Right Hand Branch. The river is formed by the confluence of the outflows of these lakes, particularly the tributaries of the River Don and River Dee, which flow from the lakes toward the Right Hand Branch. Long Lake has higher banks and is more scenic, while Trousers Lake was named for its shape, which resembles trousers. Geographically, the Right Hand Branch is actually the "left" branch of the Tobique River, but the name has stuck in local usage. The Right Hand Branch joins the Little Tobique River at Tobique Forks, north of Nictau, to form the Tobique River.
