The Androscoggin River is a 175-mile-long river in the northeastern United States that flows through New Hampshire and Maine. It rises in Umbagog Lake near the Canadian border and flows southeast through the White Mountains, passing cities such as Berlin, Lewiston, and Auburn. It eventually empties into the Kennebec River at Merrymeeting Bay before it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The river was historically important for the lumber and paper industries, but is now also known for recreational activities such as fishing and boating, despite past pollution problems that have now largely been resolved.
