The Chumar, also known as the "Red Water River" (Tibetan: Chu Dmar), is a fascinating river in western Qinghai Province, China. It rises in the rugged heights of the Tibetan Plateau and flows through the picturesque Dorgê Co ("Stone Lake") before becoming a northern tributary of the Jinsha Jiang, the upper reaches of the mighty Yangtze River. The name "Red Water River" refers to the reddish hue of its water, which is caused by mineral-rich sediments. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and vast plateaus, the Chumar forms a wild, sparsely populated landscape characterized by nomadic communities and a unique flora and fauna.
